iFEST Dates Announced
iFEST Organisers announced a new independent games festival to be held during April this year in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra. iFEST is a free event to encourage and support the growth of Australian independent game development. iFEST Organisers announced the event will be held in Canberra on April 2nd, in Sydney on April 10th and in Melbourne on April 16th.
“iFEST is the Big Day Out of Indie Games” said iFEST Coordinator, Michelle Lippey. “It’s been designed for new and emerging developers as well as anyone looking to take that first step into creating their own games but who doesn’t know where to start.”
On the day, there will be speakers, workshops and a games competition to inspire current and future game creators. Industry-reknowned speakers will talk about producing games on mobile platforms such as iphone and android as well as the more tradition platforms of PC, PS3, and Xbox360. They will address topics like, “I’ve got a great idea for a game. What now?” and “Getting your game published.”
Confirmed to speak at iFest are developers from Halfbrick, creators of Fruit Ninja, the game which is still No. 2 on the Top iPhone Apps Games of all time. Fruit Ninja has had 6 million paid downloads on its iPhone version alone since it was release in April 2010.
A games competition at each iFest will find the best local unpublished indpendent game. This is a great opportunity for both new and established developers to showcase their work.
Coordinators are expecting over 750 creative, curious future independent games artists and developers to participate.
Media are welcome.
